This morning we left our campsite near Bloomington to drive to Forest City, Iowa, the home of Winnebago Industries the company that manufactured our motor home. When we checked the weather radar this morning it showed a lot of heavy rain to the west of us, in the direction we would be heading. However, we lucked out. Our route was north west and the weather was headed south east, so other then a few drops on the windshield we missed the it.
Stopped for a very nice picnic lunch at a rest area in Iowa and arrived in Forest City without any problems. The Winnebago factory has a large grass field where they host the annual Winnebago Grand National Rally (GNR) of the Winnebago International Travelers (WIT) club. The rally takes place next week but today was the first day for early arrivals. We are members of WIT and are also members of MIL WIT which is a group of military retiree members of WIT. MIL WIT was having a pre-rally and we were signed up for it.
We joined the line of motor homes entering the GNR grounds and SLOWLY worked our way to the front of the line. After over an hour we finally got to sign in but the GNR folks didn't know anything about us. Since we were only going to be there for 2 days of the MIL WIT rally, I did not sign up for the GNR so they had to do a lot of improvising to sign us up for pre-rally parking but we got in and got a campsite. However, it turns out that the only hookup they provide is electricity so we would have to survive on our on board water and holding tanks. Should be interesting.
Our plan is to see if we can get the factory to fix a couple of minor problems we've found and to take a tour of the factory.
See you tomorrow.
