Well here we are at the MILWIT pre-rally. We are parked in a very large grass field with literally hundreds of other RVs. Here are some photos.
Here is our RV parked in the midst of a lot of other RVs, most of them bigger then us.
.
This is the pre-rally so at this point there are lots of empty grass.
More RVs.
And more RV's.
More RVs and you can see up at the end of the line the MILWIT headquarter.
Here is the MILWIT HQ. Every morning we get a continental breakfast, at 4:00 we have a happy hour and a raffle (which Pat won) and on Thursday we had a chili cook off. We didn't know about the chili cook off ahead of time so we couldn't make chili but we did have a package of cornbread mix so we provided corn bread to go along with the chili.
We had hoped to get the factory to fix some small problems we had and so on Wednesday morning at 7:00 AM I hiked over to the Customer Service office to sign up. However, it was to no avail as they couldn't get to us until Friday and we would be gone by then.
We did get to take a factory tour on Thursday. Lasted about 2-1/2 hours and was very interesting. Winnebago factory has about 60 acres under roof. They started manufacturing travel trailers in 1960 and motor homes in 1966 and are the largest RV manufacturing facility in the world. One of the building we got to see was the main production line know as "Big Bertha" which is actually 8 lines running in parallel and 1,032 ft. long. The technology is something else with laser cutters, high pressure (50,000 psi) water cutters and lots of computer controlled manufacturing. They make some thing like 20,000 motor homes a year and they are all sold before manufacturing begins. Unfortunately, they don't let you take any photos during the tour so I have nothing to show you.
Friday we will be on the road again, driving to Minnesota. Saturday we drive across North Dakota and Sunday we arrive at our son Greg's place in Great Falls, Montana.
