South Beach, Oregon - 8/2 - 8/3/2016

Talk about a thermal shock test, We went from Bend, OR, where it was 97 to South Beach, OR, where it was 67.  We actually got to where our long pants and long sleeve shirts.  But it was great, no need to worry about working up a sweat.

This was a relaxing stop with no rental car and no agenda.  Pat's knee has really been bothering her so for the most part she just relaxed.  On Tuesday, I walked down to the beach which is only about 100 yards away across US 101.

Here is the way to the beach.

Down this path thru the woods.

And here I am on the beach looking north.

And south.

As you can tell, I had the beach pretty much to myself.  There were a few houses on the edge of the bluff overlooking the beach.  The views must be spectacular.

For anyone interested there are lots just across US 101 from the beach, wonder what they cost?

On Wednesday, we hopped the county bus into Newport which is about 6 miles up the coast. cost all of $1.00 each.  We then walked down to the bay-side and went to Mo's restaurant.  Mo's has been in this location since 1942 and is famous for its New England style clam chowder.  I can see why as the chowder was exceptional.  Pat had salmon and I had a combo platter with halibut, shrimp and clam strips.  Meals were excellent and inexpensive.  I used to paying well over $20 for a combo platter but this one only cost $13.95.  Here is a photo on Mo's.

This is their original location.  They have expanded and have a second restaurant in Newport and others up a down the Oregon coast.  Her is a photo of the area across the street.  Typical old time tourist waterfront.

Unfortunately, the bus back to our campground only runs infrequently and we didn't want to sit around for 2 hours waiting for it so we took a cab back.  Cost $35 with tip.

Tomorrow we leave Oregon and head to our son Dave's place in Menlo Park, CA.  Too far to drive in one day so we will be making a stop in Redding CA.
