This morning we left Redding while it was still relatively cool and continued on the way to visit our son, David, in Menlo Park. Interstate almost all the way but we did have to drive through Oakland so we did run into a lot of traffic and backups. At one point the Interstate was 6 lanes in each direction with lots of trucks, somewhat nerve wracking.
But we did arrive safe and sound at our RV park, Trailer Villa in Redwood City. This was the closest RV park to Menlo Park and is located right on the shores of the bay. Here are a couple of photos of our camp.
Right behind us are some canals and then salt flats. Here are a couple of photos.
For those not familiar with this area, the southern end of the San Francisco Bay is lined with salt flats that are used to harvest sea salt. The first of these ponds was set up in the 1850s to provide salt to the gold miners who flocked to this area starting in 1849. Basically you set up a broad shallow area with a dike around it, allow sea water to flood the area, then allow the water to evaporate leaving the salt behind. You then scrape up the salt, clean it and sell it. It's areas like this that provide the sea salt that seems to be so popular in cooking.
David drove over to meet us and it was great as we haven't seen him in two years. For dinner we got carry out at one of the local Taquerias.
